First Time win for Boocock

First Time win for Boocock

After a gruelling weekend Boocock emerges B class winner! During qualifying Boocock’s throttle cable snapped at the end of the first lap. Fortunately enough to qualify, unfortunately in 8th place! Within 4 laps of the first race he managed to work his way through the pack and was about to take pole position from Gary George. Sadly a red flag put stop to the attack and the race went to a restart. As Elton led the B class race into the first hairpin, Ben Horne pushed Andy Lovenberry directly over the back of Boocock. Horne then proceeded to collect and push Elton across the grass sideways.

With only 4 laps in the restart Elton had his work cut out to catch the pack back up. Boocock was fantastic in the wet and managed to get back up to 4th place from a third of a lap behind the back marker. Elton Said “Another lap and I am confident we could have had a podium finish. Another 2 laps and who knows?”

Since the finish positions of the first race determine the start of the second, Elton was to start on row 2 in position 4 for race 3. The silver Seddon Atkinson was reliably quick off the mark and came out of the first corner in 3rd. It wasn’t long before Boocock climbed to 2nd and just as he was ready to take Cees Zanbergen and lead the race, a second red flag. The second race of the weekend and at the exact point that Elton had made a move to gain pole, both times the flag was there to stop him. 4 laps in and this time the race was declared due to the time it would take to prepare the circuit from the red flagged incident.

Third race and Elton knew he had to get in front from the start to avoid the curse of the red flag again. Right from the line and out braking into the corner, Elton came out of the Hatchets hairpin triumphant. Wasting no time, he then built up a considerable lead on the remainder of the field. 6 laps to go and disaster struck. The truck developed an air leak providing problems with the air assisted gear change and air brakes. Over 5 laps Zanbergen was able to creep back up onto the bumper of Elton Boocock. Into Hatchets for the last time and Elton totally locked up as he wrestled with the gears and through the truck sideways to bring it around the hairpin. Elton just managed to keep it on the track and in front of Cees Zanbergen as they set off for the final time around the South Wales circuit, Zanberg hot on the trail and allowing no room for error.

Throttle cables, red flags, colliding trucks and air system failure could not stop the inevitable. Elton had finished with the fastest lap in every race of the weekend, battled against the odds and finally he crossed the line in a very well deserved first place.
