2+1=3 for Boocock

17th August 2009
After a grueling weekend, the UKT Racing team managed to pull off a stunning 2nd place finish followed within an hour with a 1st place chequered flag!

The weekend at Thruxton was filled with ‘excitement’ from the end of last weekend’s racing at Donington. After collecting three third place finishes at the midlands circuit, it was clear that the truck had been nursed around with various mechanical issues. A strip down of the gearbox and engine revealed that all 6 cylinders were indeed ‘shot’! then came the adventure of sourcing parts from Belgium and a string of messed up deliveries until the pistons were in and the engine finally built back up by 6pm on the Friday night.

Saturday morning qualifying was going to plan until a turbo blew in exactly the same way as the previous weekends turbo failure. A diagnosis soon confirmed that the engine setup was burning the exhaust side of the turbo straight out. The team quickly reset the top end of the engine with a little guidance from the previous owner of the teams silver blue Seddon Atkinson. At the same time, with the spare turbo now blown, a borrowed, but slightly mismatched turbo was found through Team Burt and in true scrapheap challenge style was cut away from the manifold that it had been welded to and somehow made to fit our setup. With the engine back together, it was still not right and the injectors had to be removed from the teams spare engine and seated into the current 14 litre Cummins. This time we were in business. Nothing short of a miracle with 2 minutes before we were due to be on track.

The weekend results add to the run of success for the team who despite 3 ‘did not finish’ races earlier in the year are now set to challenge Powell for the championship runner up title. Soaring past FFR Racing into a comfortable third place standing in this year’s championship table, the UKT Racing team are pulling out all the stops to retain the championship runner up title from 2008. With a strong rival in Steven Powell, this year the championship will once again be a battle to the very last race at Brands Hatch on November the 6th.
