News The crash of the season
5th November 2007
It seems a long time since pembrey in March, but with all that has happened this year, that’s no surprise. We started on the podium and set out to build on the really succesful 2006 season. Then the return visit to Pembrey was to set off a chain reaction of problems.
It was clear from the Saturday that the gearbox was not healthy. Thanks to the Brookfield camp, we where able to drive to heathrow and ‘borrow’ a replacement gearbox. With a slightly different gear ratio, the extra revs may have been the cause of the engine failure. Next, out to Germany for the Nurburgring. After only half a lap, the engine siezed and this time was fatal. Back to the UK and 2 weeks later we arrived at Thruxton with a new engine on board only to find injector problems. With the injectors fixed, a throttle cable caused problems at Pembrey to add insult to injury. At least this was an easier problem to fix and we managed a good Sunday and looked forward to Brands Hatch. Accepting that we where down on power still, we had a really good day on the Saturday and had great expectations for the final round on Sunday. Then …….
No-one could have predicted what would happen 36 seconds into the race. Take a lookat the videos! So we now have a big winter ahead. We had already arranged the development of the fuel system and some engine modifications. This will now have to be postponed until the rear end of the truck is back together.
From the huge fireworks on Saturday night to the offers of help that we have received since the ‘incident’. I believe the weekend was a huge success for British Truck Racing and I know the fans enjoyed what must have been a spectacular finale to the 2007 season.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank sponsors, fans and team alike for your support in the 2007 season. If nothing else this year we have secured the place as the ‘fans favourite’! we now look forward to 2008.
